Since March our buddies the superb Modular label have been lighting up Wednesday nights in NYC with their new soiree Downtown Downturn at Chinatown’s B.East.  They invite local DJ friends—like Fools Gold’s Nick Catchdubs or Turntable Lab’s Unemployed Lloyd—to this restaurant-cum-secret cavern complete with fauna creeping up the 20+ foot ceilings.

We at Loudcrowd have been teaming up with Modular (because DD is so freaking rad) and are gearing up for an extra-special Loudcrowd//Modular night on May 27th featuring ME! and a secret guest (gotta keep it under wraps for now.) Last night’s party celebrated the end of Ratatat’s first tour, and brought Nomi of Hercules and Love Affair in for a DJ set. I wasn’t sure what she would be like behind the decks, but within the first fifteen minutes I heard Deee-lite’s Power of Love, Green Velvet’s Lalalalala, and Lele’s (offensive yet wonderful) Breakfast so needless to say I was impressed.
