‘THE FUTURE’ IS HERE; SOUNDS GOOD!
Starting next Wednesday, you can tune in to Loudcrowd for a host of awesome tracks and remixes from the new Juan MacLean album The Future Will Come. You can even win them as collectibles in the game!
Former Six Finger Satellite guitarist and band frontman John MacLean has described the album as “a disco inflected Human League sounding record.” We like it for its countless refereces to love, deceit and robots. It’s also a lot more cohesive-sounding and “of a piece” than the Juan MacLean’s debut. It took four years for the band to follow up that record, but the wait was well worth it. After a few listens, my favorite moment is when, on “Accusations,” over tightly-wound robofunk, the female vocalist unemotionally intones “I get so emotional these days.” Soooo excellent.
Also next week, we’ll post an interview with Nancy Whang, the group’s shimmery vocalist, as part of the new “Future Love” playlist, which features many of their tracks and runs Wednesdays in April. We don’t usually quote such things outright, but the group’s bio is so good we have to: “Bringing the world to its knees… requires careful preparation and forethought. It may take years before all the pieces fall into place — but once they do? Global domination should be easy as pie.” Which begs the questions: Just how easy is pie, anyway? And what will pie be like… in the future?
