Loudcrowd Pick of the Week

Audion - I Am The Car

This week’s Loudcrowd pick is brought to you by minimal house groover Matthew Dear in his Audion alias. Audion updates the “white dub” of the classic ’90s Basic Channel production team with more organic and krautrock-y sounds. There hasn’t been any new Audion music in one year, and that was just three songs on the “Billy Says Go” single. “I Am The Car” is real smooth, strange and slowly evolving. It’s like watching ice crystas develop in some science film — only more interesting, probably! I honestly wasn’t sure about it at first. But after a few listens, all the slight manipulations happening underneath the bare, slow-tech groove start to pop out. Now, I think I love it.

You can download the track for free here, at the group’s website (all they want is your email address). Apparently this is how Dear and his label Spectral Sound plan to release the new Audion music: as free downloads on the website, a new one a month, over the course of the year. 12“‘s, and eventually an album, will spring up later. For now, the only way to hear the jam is on his website — or via the youtube link at the top of this post.
