Loudcrowd Pick of the Week
Bim Marx - Personal Move
This week’s Loudcrowd pick is brought to you by disco contortionists Bim Marx. Jorge Velez aka Professor Genius and NYC-based DJ Duane Harriott form the cut-and-paste duo, whose premiere tracks recently created a stir among trainspotters in the blogosphere and beyond.
Meshing the familiar with the obscure, Bim Marx’s tracks have been compared to the work of Girl Talk and 2ManyDJs, but take a more subtle, breathable approach-in the words of Harriott, “…washing over you like a contact high, as opposed to the immediate crack rush and comedown of the afore-mentioned artists.”
Intricate, opinionated statements are the common currency of Harriott, who recently celebrated his tenth anniversary at NYC’s shrine to esoterica Other Music. Strike up conversation and he’ll soon be schooling you on how techno began (its godfathers wanted to make Gary Numan sound like P-Funk) or on Kraftwerk’s favorite band (the Beach Boys!) with earnest, unpatronizing charm.
