I can’t wait for Explode Into Colors to return to Portland from their current post-SXSW tour. I’ve only seen them one and a half times and that needs to change, ASAP. EIC is clearly one of the best bands in a town lousy with great music.

I heard from a few people that I told to go see them in Austin, TX at the Kill Rock Stars showcase that they were amazing and yes they do kind of sound like ESG; another dude I do not know compared them to X Ray Spex and LCD Soundsystem and I think he came up with a better comparison than me, largely because he used two comparisons and I only had one. As you can tell from this video of them performing at my favorite club Holocene, they’re funky and fun and fresh and fucking awesome despite only being together just over a year.

The band described themselves thusly in a recent pre-tour post on the K Records message board: “We are a three piece from Portland, OR. Heather plays everything and makes clothes. Claudia plays baritone guitar, sings, and used to play in Hornet Leg and Japanther. Lisa plays the drum set and also plays in Kickball.” They currently have no records out but will soon; their MySpace page has a few great songs on it.
