Following are some notes from Loudcrowders Fucci and Matthew Pikop on the SXSW festival in Austin, TX — an orgy of music, schmooze, BBQ, booze, and ummm the latest trend-band news? (Sorry it was hard to come up with another “ooze” rhyme).
Fucci texts: “I’m seeing Nite Jewel — newly signed to Italians Do It Better, from LA. Sound like Cocteau Twins de-iced version of Glass Candy. Live at Heeb/Other Music showcase at Red Seven.”
Matt enthuses over Thunderheist. “Definitely the best show I went to so far. Girl was crazy. Totally owned the stage/made the crowd her stage most of the time.” (Don’t worry, I’ve never heard of her before, either.)
Asked for more highlights from the past few days they have this to say:
Matt: “I’m sure you’ve heard about Datarock’s show at the Loudcrowd showcase already, but the boys owned the show — mostly with jumpsuits and energy. Don’t really think you need much else.”
Fucci: Launch party- Datarock and Kid Sister and Hey Champ
we had a roofdeck open bar
we all got wasted and wandered around Austin
ended up at the Pure Volume party and we cut the VIP line and got in
Flosstradamus and Franki Chan DJing
Matt: “The band Magic Magic — some local Boston friends down here for SXSW — were also awesome. They never disappoint. You have to check them out.”
Fucci: Weds
saw Ladyhawke live at Stubs- (shockingly, she has aspergers!)
saw Miami Horror at Rusty Spurs
Magic Magic at Spiros
Matt: “Then there was Gomez: a little bit mainstream, but still a great show. Love that they use three different lead singers.”
Fucci: Thurs
went to Rhapsody party- School of Seven Bells were nice
duane harriot of other music/Bim Marx in attendance
dj $mall Change DJing
Trail of the Dead and Vivian Girls also played
Matt: “And finally Andrew Bird: totally badass as usual. Doubling whistle solos with the glockenspiel. So legit!”
