The Twelves Guest Playlist

REWIND: Guest DJs The Twelves

Every Friday, we hit rewind to visit one of our older playlists. The following is one of our favorites from the Loudcrowd vaults — the great, up-and-coming Brazilian duo the Twelves.

1. Thirty Minutes of the Twelves Mixtape #1

2. Despite being pretty much instantly huge across the globe since they got together in 2006, they took their time in signing to a label despite myriad opportunites. Business smarts are sexy, don’t you think?

3. The Twelves’ remix of “Humanitarianism” by Zeigeist.

4. They know how to rock the grown-out Don Johnson almost-beard look rather well. This is not easy.

5. They also employ good fashion sense, even while rocking out.

6. The Twelves’ remix of “Ce Jeu” by Yelle.

7. Speaking of rocking out, it appears they can in the literal sense.

8. The Twelves’ remix of “Boyfriend” by the Black Kids.

9. It is apparently impossible to image-search for “Brazil Twelves” and not stumble across images like this. Just saying — just, ummm, warning you. That might not be a bad thing.

10. The Twelves’ remix of “In for the Kill” by La Roux.

11. They’re open-minded enough to be down with furries.

12. They are part of the history of Brazilian music, which has shown us how to be innovative and funky-sexy at the same time. From the bossa nova songs your grandparents swayed to such as “The Girl From Ipanema” to the Tropicalia jams your parents maybe made out to assuming they were super-hip, Brazilian music flat-out rules and has for a long time. Not all of it, of course — but a heck of a lot of it. Start with Caetano Veloso.

13. Thirty Minutes of the Twelves Mixtape #2.
