Loudcrowd Pick of the Week:

Depeche Mode Wrong

Depeche Mode formed almost thirty years ago. Thirty! I’m old, and that seems old to me. Odds are, D.M. would be totally be performing at the Kansas State Fair and no one at all would care about their new music if they were a rock band from the same era. However, something about the magical brand of proto-Goth synth-dance-pop that they’ve practiced has not only saved them from the demolition-derby-and-elephant-ear circuit, but it’s kept their faces and their music rather fresh.

Take their new song, “Wrong,” which tones down their super anthemic ’80s sound but it never sounds like anyone else. And that video? It’s totally smart, thoroughly disturbing, and one week after being uploaded to Youtube it’s passed one third of a million views. One look and you’ll see why — though don’t watch it if you’re not down with a bit of ultra-violence. Damn, that’s pretty close to brilliant.
