Loudcrowd Pick of the Week:
Whitest Boy Alive Courage
Norweigan singer/songwriter Erlend Oye has a lot going on. He came on my radar in 2001 with Kings of Convenience’s Quiet is the New Loud, dropping folky ballads with an indie edge. Then later he provided guest vocals on one of best noughties albums, Royksopp’s killer Melody A.M., casting a humble, wistful sentiment on Remind Me and Poor Leno. He’s continued with the Kings, and various side projects including the current obsession of Loudcrowd staff, minimal electropop act Whitest Boy Alive.
Whitest Boy Alive had a stellar first album, and current previews of the forthcoming Rules allude to a another gorgeous landscape. Due to drop in March or April, Rules tracks like my favorite Courage make (gentle) demands- in this case, if you like me, cut the shit and show it. Well said. I can’t wait till these guys come to the U.S. of A!
