Loudcrowd’s Pick of the Week: Yeah Yeah Yeahs

The new Yeah Yeahs single, “Zero” was leaked by the group this week. And in a move that will probably surprise no one, they’ve gone way more synth-dancey this time. The result sounds pretty great to us based on a few excited listens, though this is one of those songs we’ll hear a lot this year. So ask us what we think about it four months from now! “Zero” is from their forthcoming album, It’s Blitz! That’s not out for two months, and the single itself isn’t out in any form yet either. So for now the only way to hear it is streaming at this imeem link.

Their most accessible song since “Maps,” the tune is a stripped-down, sexy synth-pop number with a nu-disco vibe; finally those Blondie comparisons really make sense. I like my friend Maura’s response to “Zero” over at Idolator, where she writes that it “could be the YYYs’ attempt at writing a prom theme for the disaffected.” Nice. Who wants to bet these guys take Glass Candy on the road with them as their opening act?
