Loudcrowd Pick of the Week:

Fot i Hose

Norway’s Casiokids initially caught my attention with their video for Fot i Hose. Oversize paper heads atop the band and a slew of other chararcters, who take you on an blithe international tour of festivals and other random occurences. A loose collective who emerged from the notion of “making electronic music more visual”, Casiokids just finished up a Euro tour backing Of Montreal; delightful considering that they promoted their first album by playing to Norweigan kindergarteners.

Visual wits aside, the tune itself layers a scant bassline over a simple melody of tweaked synths- normally something that would be too repetitive for my easily diverted self, but Casiokids pull it off in a lulling, atmospheric way that conjures post-punk, afrobeat, and cosmic disco. Makes sense for a band who call out King Tubby, Liquid Liquid, and Paul Simon’s Graceland as influences (say it proud, guys).
