Have you seen this yet, “My Girls”? It’s the first video to launch/ land/ drop/ (insert similar verb here) from Animal Collective’s trippy new album Merriweather Post Pavilion, which was released on Obamaday.

The song shows off a new, highly danceable and electronical side to this super inventive Brooklyn-based troupe of post-everything-ers. According to both  Pitchfork and the Gorilla Vs. Bear blog, which means it’s doubly true, the tune draws inspiration from Frankie Knuckles’ house classic “Your Love.” It’s sung by Panda Bear, like many of their catchiest and prettiest numbers. I like the unmaterialistic lyrics, too — which seem to suit our times, I guess? We’re totes in another post-bling era.

The video is pretty awesome, I think. It reminds me of both the ridiculous ’60s sci-fi flick Fantastic Voyage and the ridiculous ’80s animated movie Heavy Metal. Both of those are stoner movies, yes. I’m not a stoner myself but I like stoner movies. Go figure.   —Mike
