Introducing Loudcrowd’s Pick of the Week
Today is a day of melancholic joy. There’s a lot to celebrate right now; and also a feeling of tenuousness across the U.S. We’re about to inaugurate a new totally awesome President, who is stirring up a lot of hope …at the same time, almost everyone I know is broker than they have been for awhile. It seems fitting that today is the day we observe Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday- the most happysad holiday of all. We’ve come a long way, and yet most people are kind of on the fence- scared to set their sights too high, yet holding on-knowing they will make it if they just don’t look down.
I’m introducing our new Pick-of-the-Week feature with much the same attitude- excited to share some good music, yet generally overcome by the ho-homs of daily existence. (Full disclosure: My most recent relationship was so low register sometimes I forget we even broke up.) Like a ’50s debutante waiting for her Saturday night call, I’ve found myself chomping at the bit for fun and constantly checking my immediate surroundings for a pulse.
That’s why I picked The Fred Falke edit of Appollo GIze by Digitalism for my first pick of the week. Falke puts his signature etherea on Digitalism’s mechanized heartbeat, creating a tune both hopeful and world-weary. Pushing forth to the great unknown, our current mood is best summed up in the bands own words:
It’s such a situation in where you’re stuck in your own time/
We called it obligation to admit that we are fine.
Are we fine? Tell me what you think (of this tune, or otherwise).
