LOUDCROWD PICK OF THE WEEK: MATH THE BAND, WHY DIDN’T YOU GET A HAIRCUT

I’m so glad I found out about Math The Band this month. This act brings together the caterwauling group vocal style of Los Campesinos! for their anthemic choruses, the gimmicky ’80s computer sound of 8-bit programming for much of their music, the hyperactive ultra-nerd-dom of Dan Deacon, and the distorted vocal style of screamo. And yet, despite all of that, they’re kind of awesome!

Math the Band is from New England or thereabouts — they list their home as “Providence Rhode Island and Dartmouth, Massachusetts” which can probably be summed up by the word “college.” We hope to have a few songs by them in the game next month; here’s a sneak preview of how well they’ve transformed from a bedroom project to a full-fledged band.
