SPIN SUGAR

If you grew up in the ’90s like I did, with the tag “club kid” forever taped to your back, you’ll probably get the reference here. In fact, I remember spraining my ankle pretty badly to that track when I was 19, doing that ridiculous rave move where you’re bouncing from foot to foot with all your weight on the outsides of your pinky toes. I’m pretty sure I picked that one up raving in Sweden… figures.

This blessing of a night happens every first Thursday in the upstairs space at the very appropriate Sin Sin located at 248 east 5th in the heart of the east village. DJs Amber Valentine, Noa D and Roze Royze play a very balanced mix of early house, late disco, hip hop and poppy dance tunes. They set out on this endeavor with the intensions to musically include everyone who walked through their door.  And it works. I’ve never seen a whole party use a dance floor quite like this. Which by itself is just plain refreshing in a city where it can at times feel like pulling teeth trying to get people to just tap a foot.

It’s the one party I have never once missed and that’s saying a lot seeing as though it’s been running strong for over a year now. If you miss this month’s, be sure to make it next round. I hear that in addition guest DJ Designer Imposter, they will be hiring a nail art specialist, per birthday girl Amber Valentine’s request.
