LOUDCROWD PICK OF THE WEEK: Telonius Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick
There have been numerous versions of this track released over the past thirty years, including of course the 1978 original by Ian Dury and The Blockheads. Telonius (linked to fellow Gommarians Munk and Leroy Hanghofer) came up with what I may have to declare my favorite rock to disco cover to date. It’s got that perfect slow boogie beat that makes you feel like grinding your heels deeply into the nearest hard-wood dance floor. And the vocals! Dare I say, perfect? I’m not sure who is responsible since there’s not a whole lot of info out there yet on Telonius. But it’s that rubbing and tugging female vocal that kind of makes you wonder about the meaning Ian Dury originally set out for in his lyrics.
They don’t have a whole lot of tracks available as of yet, however I have a feeling they’ve got a lot of plans under their belts. Already on the horizon, Like What, which promises remixes from The Glimmers and Mike Monday. In the meantime, do yourself a favor: FREE DOWNLOAD ON www.myspace.com/teloniusmusic.
