New Loudness Tuesdays
CRYSTAL STILTS Converging in the Quiet
This weekend I had a conversation with my local liquor store employee Randy on how the standard hip-hop approach to writing music is somewhat similar to a singer-songwriter or folk artist’s intention. His thoughts: simple messaging and repetition make for ease of listening and unostentacious experience.
I find this true for my new favorite addition to Loudcrowd, Crystal Stilts’ Converging in the Quiet. Simple garage rock, remote vocals, and dreamy intent; hearing them feels like you stumbled into a Joy Division recording basement session before things got so gloomy.
Also featured this week are Won’t Bother Me from NYC duo The Glass and Jay Reatard’s brit wave-ish Turning Blue, a punk ditty that’s pretty catchy despite its’ eerie reek of violence.
