Santigold and Major Lazer help warm us up
So, global warming is clearly upon us. And while 85F in the Northeast seems mostly convenient (ask Williamsburg’s residents, who blithely circulated last weekend in gauzy sundresses and cut-offs), there’s that other feeling; a combination of scared and guilty. It’s in the little things you see, like a new breed of freshly hatched flies zooming around your apartment, or the Ritter Sport bar melting on the kitchen table. That shit isn’t supposed to happen in April. And what’s going to happen to us as things keep getting warmer?
I tend to quell the general feeling of helplessness by doing little things. Like …I recycle. And carry a reusable water bottle (ask anyone, it comes with me everywhere. It’s gotten almost Freudian at this point). And someday, when I can afford a car, I am totally going to buy a Hybrid.
OK, I realize my efforts are less than compelling. But truth is, these days there is not a lot to celebrate, so I like to look at the unusual weather with some rose-colored glasses. Summer warmth brings a levity to everything, so I’m making the best of a bizarre situation, and capitalizing on the mood.
Helping us with that are Major Lazer (the moniker for Diplo and Switch’s new dancehall partnership) and Santigold. Both of these acts have that sizzling, stirring spirit that inspires us to come out of hibernation. So to kick it off, I’ve put together a new playlist of our favorite warm-up jams, studded with their tracks and others that meet the heat.
Look out in the next few weeks for word from Santigold and Major Lazer themselves, who’ll be giving us their top summer picks and other tips on getting ready for the hotness.
